Congratulations on the occasion of the Day of the Constitution by the President of the Constitutional Court, Danutė Jočienė

25-10-2021

I sincerely congratulate everyone on the occasion of the Day of the Constitution!

Adopted by the People in a referendum, the Constitution, which celebrates the 29th anniversary today, is mature and wise, as well as is based on unquestionable values – the sovereignty belonging to the People, democracy, the independence of the state, the rule of law, respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms, the geopolitical orientation of the State of Lithuania, the duty of state authority institutions to serve the people, and the responsibility of these institutions.

The Constitution reflects a social contract – an obligation democratically assumed by all citizens of the Republic of Lithuania to the current and future generations to live under the fundamental rules consolidated in the Constitution and to obey these rules so that concord would exist in society. Thus, the Constitution consolidates the obligation of the civil People to create and strengthen the State of Lithuania in accordance with the fundamental rules laid down in the Constitution.

On the day of the Constitution, I wish that the striving for an open, just, and harmonious civil society, as established in the Preamble to the Constitution, become a beautiful reality for everyone and that inherent human rights and freedoms, from which human dignity is inseparable, be respected and guaranteed in our society.

Therefore, let us be responsible, strive not only for our own well-being, but also for the well-being of others and, at the same time, of the state as a whole, and sincerely honour our commitment to respect the Constitution and the fundamental values consolidated therein on every day basis and throughout the year.

Congratulations on our holiday – the Day of the Constitution!
